In Winter 2019, we launched our Youth Council, designed to be an important source of insights and information for the Academy and an opportunity for young creators to develop their knowledge of their rights and the industry.
The Youth Council is an advisory group, made up of one student or creator aged under 25 from each of our Partner organisations, plus Under 25 Members of The Ivors Academy. The Youth Council meets 4 times per year, via Zoom to allow members from all over the country to get involved, and meetings will be chaired by our Co-Chairs.
Whilst the Youth Council itself doesn’t have decision-making authority, it informs and influences the agendas of our Committees and Board, and therefore the causes we campaign on and the events we deliver. Our two Co-Chairs of the Youth Council have now been co-opted the Academy’s Board as joint directors.
We believe that creating this permanent place on our Board for a young creator sends an important message about how the Academy values the next generation of talent.
