The German songwriter streaming revolt: re-slicing the royalty pie

German music creators and their managers have been in the news, calling out labels for ‘keeping a disproportionate amount of income’ from streaming – and German labels are listening.

The current streaming economy is unsustainable for songwriters and composers, in particular non-performing ones. It’s a priority for The Ivors Academy to find and champion solutions that will redress the inequitable way streaming royalties are distributed today, and we believe we’re stronger and more likely to succeed if we work together with our European and American colleagues.

Join representatives from Deezer and VERSO, the German songwriters association, who are spearheading the fight, to learn from their campaigns and to discuss concrete, practical ways of ensuring songwriters are once again properly compensated for their work – from user-centric payment systems (UCPS) to per diems for artist development.

Speakers:

Anton Gourman, Deezer – Global Director of Communication
Michelle Leonard, VERSO – singer, multiplatinum songwriter, artist developer & publisher
Ali Zuckowski, VERSO – songwriter, music producer, co-founder of VERSO & Deputy Board member of GEMA
Alexander Freund, VERSO – songwriter, producer, board member of VERSO
Helienne Lindvall (chair), The Ivors Academy – songwriter, journalist & Board Director of The Ivors Academy

After the panel, attendees are invited to join the speakers, members of the Academy and guests for networking drinks. Tickets are free for members and £10 for non-members. If you would like to attend the event you must RSVP or book your place on Eventbrite here.
