The self-employed make up 72% of the music industry’s workforce. We pressed Government to urgently implement measures to guarantee income for the self-employed and workers on zero-hour contracts, particularly music creators, live performers, peripatetic music teachers, managers, engineers and producers. This is vital as ‘the current welfare system is not devised for a situation where the Government is strongly advising the music sector to stop work’.
We also asked Government to enact support for staff wages and VAT holidays for businesses; to provide clarity about the ban on mass events; and to guarantee accountability of insurance companies.
We need Government to act immediately to save our world-class industry and show that every creator matters.
