In this expanded role, Paul will continue to work closely with CEO Roberto Neri, Chair Tom Gray, and policy leads Maria McMillan and Jenny Goodwin to shape and deliver the Academy’s advocacy and public affairs strategy. He will play a key part in advancing campaigns on AI, fair pay for music makers, pressures on arts funding, and addressing coercive commissioning practices faced by screen composers.
Since joining the Academy as Public Affairs and Campaigns Coordinator in 2022, Paul has played a central role in shaping policy positions, building relationships with Parliamentarians, and helping to secure progress on important industry issues.
Paul Mortimer said: “I’m proud to step into this new role at such a crucial time for songwriters and composers. The Ivors Academy is leading the way on some of the most important debates in music, and it’s an honour to be part of the team fighting for a fairer and more sustainable future.”
Roberto Neri, CEO of The Ivors Academy, said: “Paul’s commitment and passion for advocacy have been invaluable to the Academy’s work. This promotion reflects the impact he’s already made and the energy we know he’ll continue to bring as we campaign to protect, celebrate and empower songwriters and composers.”
Paul’s background spans public affairs, communications and campaigns. Before joining The Ivors Academy, he worked at The Law Society, where he managed communications across its international and human rights channels. He also held several roles with a major political party, leading local and regional campaigns, managing election communications, and coordinating visits from national politicians.
