The Ivors Academy has launched a new resource to help songwriters and composers understand how they can use the new UK music industry Transparency Code to ask their publishers for more information about their royalties and remuneration from music streaming services.
This resource also contains template wordings that Ivors Academy members can use when making requests of their publishers and PRS for Music under the Code.
This document is only available to Ivors Academy members and can be accessed in our online members area.
Members can view the recording of an online webinar which covers how the Transparency Code affects them and how they can use the new Explainer and template wordings to secure information from their publisher and PRS. The recording is available in our online members area.
The ‘UK Voluntary Code of Good Practice on Transparency in Music Streaming’ more commonly known as the Transparency Code, was agreed by the Ivors Academy and UK music industry groups on 31st January 2024 and came into effect on 31st July. The Transparency Code provides a framework that can be used to start tackling the “systemic lack of transparency” in music streaming that was identified by the Culture, Media & Sport Select Committee in 2021.
The Transparency Code enables songwriters and composers to ask their publisher for details about how their streaming remuneration is calculated and paid out, and to provide a variety of other information about streaming revenues and reporting.

This Ivors Academy will be monitoring any ongoing transparency issues and working with the Intellectual Property Office to drive further improvements to ensure that the music industry gets the “complete reset” that has been called for by songwriters and composers and encourages its members to email us on info@ivorsacademy.com with any feedback they have on using the Transparency Code.
