In Conversation with Mysie and Fraser T Smith

Member only event during Ivors Week 2021. Register to attend online or register your interest to attend in-person in Haggerston, London.

Join The Ivors Academy in person or online for our first ever hybrid member event. This will be an informal conversation on the experiences of mentoring / being mentored and who better to speak to this than our inaugural Rising Star Winners Mysie and Fraser T Smith. We will also provide an overview of our 2021 mentoring scheme for members in partnership with Help Musicians.

As a producer for some of music’s biggest names, Fraser T Smith has a remarkable track record boasting a Ivor, Grammy and Mercury awards win to name a few. In 2020 Mysie would be nominated for the first ever Rising Star Award at The Ivors and the two would subsequently go on to pick up the newly coveted prize.

Fraser signed Mysie to his label, 70Hz, and together they set out to make the music you hear now: considered, intimate indie soul that has captured Mysie’s spirit. “It’s amazing to find someone who wants to amplify my voice as a young black female musician,” Mysie says. The subsequent sessions produced the project Mysie feels captures the spirit and soul of what she’s long desired to make: Undertones. “It’s about my relationship with love itself and wearing my heart on my sleeve” she says of the project. Mysie’s attitude is embrace love, live within it, and make art from it, no matter the cost.

The Grammy-winning songwriter/producer, known for his work with everybody from Adele to Stormzy, has a reputation for coercing star power out of those who are on a path to realising they’ve always possessed it and did so once again when Executive Producing Mysie’s latest EP Undertones.

We’ll delve into the beginnings of this relationship, asking what it was like in those first initial meetings and how the two would go on to cultivate a strong bond.

This will also be followed by a 30min networking sessions so members have the opportunity to meet each other.

There are limited spaces available for the in person aspect of this event, we will do a ballot of all the members who register for tickets and will contact those who are successful. We’ll also stream the panel segment of the session for those who couldn’t be in the room with us.

Times: 7pm doors, 7.30pm online and in-person event starts, 8.30pm online event finishes. In-person networking from 8.30pm – 9.15pm.
