The Ivors Academy Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team will host the first ‘Youth Network Presents’ webinar event on Thursday 28th May at 3pm.
Join us to hear real-life experiences of young creators at the start of their career journey, to discuss the unique challenges of starting-out as a young music creator. We’ll be exploring healthy ways to combat stresses and how to build a ‘tool-kit’ of resilience to aid career longevity.
The panel discussion will give our community of young creators the opportunity to ask questions directly to the panel and gain practical advice through listening to personal insights and experience. Hear from student representatives from our Youth Network Partner Organisations, with speakers including:
Micheal J McEvoy is a performer, producer, music educator and an Ivor Novello Award nominated award-winning composer with many film, television and pop music credits to his name, including the score to Richard Loncraine’s feature Finding Your Feet (Imelda Staunton, Timothy Spall), and the evocative jazz score to Peabody Award winning BBC/PBS documentary The Jazz Ambassadors. Other credits include Richard Linklater’s Me and Orson Welles (Zac Efron, Clare Danes) and Forget Me Not (Winner of London Independent Film Festival).
His music also appears in Nothing Like the Holidays, Wild Card, Wild Target, plus TV dramas, The Wire, Young Dracula and Dark Angel.
Mike’s first break in commercial music came aged 20 when Ian Dury hired Michael to co-write and arrange his album Four Thousand Weeks’ Holiday. As a writer and/or producer he worked with acts including Curiosity Killed the Cat, Soul II Soul and James Taylor Quartet.
As a jazz composer, Michael has written and produced three albums including The Long Way Home (2014).
Molly Toner is a producer and DJ studying Music Performance at London College of Creative Media. Her first practical experience of working in the creative Arts came from being a junior dancer in West End shows when she was only 11 years old, having trained at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.
Molly then started to attend ACM Guildford for guitar tuition going on to complete her diploma in Music Performance in 2017. Returning to London to continue her studies at LCCM, Molly then started an internship with Hoxton Radio. It was here that she met DJ Jevanni Letford who was instrumental in encouraging her to follow a path in producing and DJing.
Since leaving Hoxton Radio Molly has created her own online platform called Symilar, dedicated to the promotion and growth of women in the Music industry.
Molly current project is her bi-weekly podcast which features female artists and spotlights female music industry professionals.

Tom Prince is a Media composer studying Media Composition with ThinkspaceEducation and currently works as a Private Piano Tutor, Producer and Composer. He is a multi-instrumentalist with a musical background of Caribbean, Celtic and Classical Influences.
Joe de Ruiter is a multi-instrumentalist, performer and songwriter from Leeds and studies at Popular Music Performance at Leeds Arts University. He manages, composes and performs with his band ‘Birchwood Book Club’, who are an existential indie band that combine American emo/indie sounds with British pop /alternative music. He also plays with ‘Soup For One’, a function band that takes popular songs and applies ludicrous amounts of funk to them.
He is interested specifically in the function of popular music in our culture as a tool for understanding and transformation.
