The Ivors Academy and Musicians’ Union (MU) are hosting a joint online event for aspiring and new media composers.
About the event:
The session will explore the ways in which a composer can start to find and secure media commissions and the skills needed. Experienced panellists will provide insight on pitching and commissioning processes, general contractual terms and the role of composers in delivering their work.
The media sector is a competitive and desirable field in which to work and the level and breadth of work available ensures it’s accessible to more than big names on high-profile TV and film productions. The panel will explore opportunities available for all composers and will cover developing your career as a media composer, understanding fees, royalties and rights and negotiation tips.
There will also be a Q&A to allow attendees to ask questions.
Panellists:
Mark Gordon (Composer & Score Draw Music)
Bankey Ojo (Composer)
Jenna Fentiman (Head of Creative, Manners McDade)
Kirsteen McLean (Head of Music, Banijay UK)
Zoe Bryant (Music Supervisor, Carbon Logic)
This event has been arranged as part of The Ivors Academy and MU’s Composers Against Buyouts campaign.
Who will find the event useful?
The session is aimed at composers looking to work in the media sector and those with some experience of composing for screen, but wishing to learn more on finding opportunities and securing work. Composition students and graduates are also encouraged to attend.
Date and time:
Thursday 24th June 14:00-15:00
