The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors, in association with PRS for Music, presents the Gold Badge Awards on 20th October 2010 at the newly refurbished Savoy in London.
The Gold Badge Awards celebrate the careers of people who have made a special contribution to Britain’s music and entertainment industry, acknowledging work that is often done behind the scenes and without public recognition.
Over the last 37 years the awards have paid tribute to a wide range of music industry professionals, including broadcasters, recording artists, publishers, arrangers, managers, producers and record company executives.
This year’s recipient list covers a similarly wide range of disciplines, and includes performers and composers, a journalist, a sound engineer, a promoter, an artistic director, a radio producer and a session musician.
This year BASCA will be awarding the Gold Badge of Merit to (in alphabetical order):
- Howard Blake OBE – award sponsored by PPL
- Tom Bradley
- Geoff Foster
- Lesley Garrett CBE
- John Paul Jones
- Julian Joseph
- Tony Moore
- Chris Shurety
- Heather Small – award sponsored by the MU
- Phil Swern
- Clare Torry
- Paul White
- Brian Willey
Sarah Rodgers, Chair of the British Academy of Composers, Songwriters and Authors, says:
“There are few awards in the music business which give such unqualified pleasure as a Gold Badge. The Awardees are an exclusive community who know that they are all respected, admired and cherished. A Gold Badge conveys so much that would otherwise be left unsaid . It says, what you do for us songwriters and composers is remarkable and has not gone unnoticed; it says, we couldn’t do it without you; and it says, you are the best!”
Nigel Elderton, Chairman MCPS at PRS for Music says:
“As a publisher I applaud the fact that these awards recognise those men and women at the heart of our industry, who collectively play such an important role in making the music we all love. From the writers, to the producers, promoters, performers and those that play a supporting role, the Gold Badge celebrates them all.”
