Don Black, Chairman of the British Academy of Composers, Songwriters and Authors, said:
“Our main task at BASCA is to champion the cause of British Songwriters. I am often emphasizing that it all starts with a song and that without the songwriters there would be no music industry. However, today my colleagues and I stand down from our soapbox to acknowledge treasured friends who have made a valuable contribution to our profession and helped shape our magnificent industry.
Since the music business has grown too large to fit into Denmark Street, it has become so widespread that it is possible not to meet up with such colleagues for years. I therefore welcome you to today’s luncheon and hope you will agree that it is one of the best of the year as it brings old friends back together and celebrates the achievements of some marvelous characters.”
