Honouring contemporary composing.

Presented by The Ivors Academy, The Ivors Classical Awards celebrate creative excellence in British and Irish composing. Judged by composers for composers, the awards recognise excellence in craft and creativity.

This year, three Gift of the Academy Awards were presented to Anne Dudley, Anoushka Shankar and Debbie Wiseman, and a further eight composers and librettists were recognised across six categories, with Ivor Novello Awards going to composers Anibal Vidal, Anna Clyne, Helen Grime, Jonathan Dove, Luke Mombrea and Nneka Cummins, and librettists April De Angelis and Zoe Gilbert.

Winners received an iconic Ivor Novello Award statuette and joined a roll call of some the UK’s most talented composers including Sally Beamish, Sir Harrison Birtwistle, Tansy Davies, Jonny Greenwood, Anna Meredith, Sir John Tavener, Sir John Rutter, Mark-Anthony Turnage, Errollyn Wallen, Roderick Williams and many more.

Hosted by Tom McKinney and Kate Molleson, the ceremony is supported by PRS for Music and in association with BBC Radio 3.  Listen to ceremony highlights on BBC Radio 3’s New Music Show from 10.30pm on Saturday 15 November and BBC Sounds.

You'll find everything you need to enter your music in the rules and guidelines.

Members of The Ivors Academy can enter works with the following discount on the administration fee of £40 + VAT per work.

Why is the Best Sound Art category not listed for 2025?

The Best Sound Art category is being paused this year while we take more time to review it fully. We are looking at how we define and judge the category to make sure that it is relevant, fair and appropriately recognises the work being created in this space. We’re committed to supporting composers working in sound arts and this review is part of that commitment.
