The consultation "seeks views on how the government can ensure the UK’s legal framework for AI and copyright supports the UK creative industries and AI sector together."

As AI policy develops, protecting copyright and creators’ rights will be essential to secure the future of music and ensure that songwriters and composers are fairly paid for their rights.

The Ivors Academy is dedicated to actively engaging with the consultation. We will host Member Forums to inform our community, gather member insights and collect valuable evidence. These contributions will shape our formal response to the consultation.

We will share updates and guidance with members in early 2025.

Roberto Neri, CEO of The Ivors Academy said, “We welcome the opportunity to respond to the consultation to protect the interests of songwriters and composers. Music creators spend years honing their craft to write the songs that underpin the entire value of the music industry – worth £7.6 billion in the UK alone.

Practical solutions are essential to strengthen copyright and licensing, ensuring that creators receive the remuneration, consent, control and transparency they need to sustain their careers and enable a successful industry.”
