As head of the NMPA since 2005, David plays an important role advocating for US music publishers, leading negotiations with streaming services and shaping landmark industry legislation including the Music Modernization Act (MMA).

The Summit, taking place just two days before The Ivors on 22 May, is a new one-day event bringing together global industry leaders, songwriters and composers. Through podcast-style conversations and interactive sessions, attendees will gain insights from industry experts and acclaimed music creators while building a practical toolkit to navigate the evolving landscape of the music business.

David’s participation in the Summit comes at a pivotal moment for songwriter earnings in the streaming era. The NMPA has been instrumental in negotiations with Spotify and other platforms, recently securing a landmark 44% increase in mechanical streaming rates in the U.S. However, challenges remain as streaming economics, licensing, and the rise of AI continue to reshape the industry and put creator earnings under pressure.

David Israelite, President and CEO of the NMPA said: “The economics of songwriting and publishing in the U.S. are intertwined with the global landscape. I look forward to discussing the many challenges we face stateside – from Spotify’s bundling scheme to the value of songs in age of AI – with experts from around the world. This groundbreaking summit is well timed as the stakes have never been higher for songwriters, and their work has never been more valuable particularly as international rights play a critical role in U.S. deals.”

Roberto Neri, CEO of The Ivors Academy, said: “David Israelite is a relentless champion for music publishers, leading critical battles for fair pay and rights. Under his leadership, the NMPA has secured historic wins for creators and rights holders, and we’re delighted to welcome him to the inaugural Ivors Academy Summit. With streaming royalties, licensing, and AI at the forefront of industry transformation, David’s US insights will be invaluable to help songwriters, composers and the wider music community navigate these challenges.”
