Ludovico Einaudi to be honoured with Fellowship of The Ivors Academy at the new Ivors Composer Awards

Ludovico Einaudi will join an extraordinary group of composers and songwriters whose exceptional achievements and enduring contributions have shaped music.

Ludovico Einaudi

Ludovico Einaudi will become a Fellow of The Ivors Academy, the highest honour the organisation bestows. He will be inducted into Fellowship at The Ivors Composer Awards on 17 November in London and will also take part as a speaker at The Ivors Academy Composer Summit the following day at the Royal Institution.

With tens of millions of monthly listeners worldwide, Ludovico Einaudi is the most streamed classical composer of all time. Trained in the classical tradition, he has drawn on minimalism, folk, electronic music and improvisation to develop a singular musical language that transcends genres and conventions. In addition to his impressive body of work seen through his vast discography of studio, live and compilation albums, Einaudi has also composed for film (This Is England, Nomadland, The Father), TV (Doctor Zhivago, Derek), theatre and dance. His live performances continue to reach audiences world-wide, with sold-out shows at the world’s greatest venues including the Royal Albert Hall, the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, the Berliner Philharmonie and The O2.

Through this honour, The Ivors Academy recognises Einaudi’s extraordinary contribution to contemporary composition and his profound impact on audiences around the world. Fellows are recognised by their peers, reflecting the Academy’s belief that there is no greater honour than recognition from fellow music creators.

Ludovico Einaudi said: “I grew up listening to a lot of British music, and its artists have shaped my musical world and continue to inspire me. The UK was the first country to truly embrace my music, and over the years it has become a much-loved second home. To be welcomed into the Fellowship of The Ivors Academy, among so many artists I admire, is a great honour.”

Lord Neri, CEO of The Ivors Academy, said: “Ludovico Einaudi has brought intelligent and beautiful contemporary instrumental music to audiences on an extraordinary scale. His success demonstrates the immense cultural value of composition and its power to connect people across generations and languages. At The Ivors Academy, we believe composers deserve recognition for the creativity and originality that enrich our lives. We are delighted to welcome Ludovico into our Fellowship and celebrate his exceptional contribution to music and culture.”

Tom Gray, Chair of The Ivors Academy, said: “Ludovico Einaudi is a true pioneer, creating a musical language entirely his own. A master of minimalism, his compositions are instantly recognisable yet continue to surprise and move us. He has followed his artistic instincts throughout his career, creating an extraordinary body of work that crosses musical boundaries. Fellowship is the highest honour we bestow, and it is a privilege to recognise a composer whose music has touched so many lives.”

The Ivors Composer Awards will be held in London at Grosvenor House on 17 November and hosted by radio presenter Petroc Trelawny. The new dedicated ceremony celebrates excellence in composition across all genres and disciplines and are judged by fellow composers, recognising exceptional creativity, craft and achievement across the full breadth of contemporary composition. The Awards are sponsored by PRS for Music and presented in association with BBC Radio 3

Earlier this month, The Ivors Academy announced 36 nominees across nine categories celebrating excellence in composition, spanning film, television, video games, concert music, theatre and community engagement. The Academy also revealed that at the ceremony, Max Richter will receive an Ivor Novello Award for Innovation in recognition of his ingenuity and impact on contemporary classical music.

The ceremony will form part of Ivors Composer Week (16 – 20 November), an inaugural series of events to broaden the celebration and empowerment of composers further. This includes a new annual event, The Ivors Academy Composer Summit in association with BMI (18 November) held at the Royal Institution, London.
