Latest update on The Ivors 2020

The winners of Ivor Novello Awards will still be announced on 2 September, however the planned Grosvenor House London ceremony will no longer take place.

The Ivors Academy has today announced that The Ivors ceremony at the Grosvenor House London, which was due to be held on 2 September 2020, will no longer go ahead.  However, the winners of Ivor Novello Awards for this year will still be announced on this date.

The Ivors was postponed from its traditional May date following the lockdown caused by the coronavirus crisis. However, with the ongoing restrictions on events and social distancing requirements, it has also become impossible to go ahead with the rescheduled event date.

Recognised as a pinnacle of achievement since they were first presented in 1956, the Academy presents Ivor Novello Awards twice a year to honour and celebrate exceptional songwriting and composing.

The Ivors with Apple Music sees the presentation of Ivor Novello Awards to celebrate songwriting and screen composition.

Graham Davies, CEO and Crispin Hunt, Chair of The Ivors Academy, said:

“As a community of music creators, The Ivors Academy has presented awards continuously for 64 years and 2020 will be no different. Lockdown proved how important music is to our lives and how fragile the live music industry is. Now, more than ever, songwriting and composing should be championed and celebrated to keep music alive. Our heartfelt thanks to Apple Music, PRS for Music and Grosvenor House London for their continued support.”

Judging across all categories took place before lockdown restrictions were imposed and nominations and winners will be announced on the following dates:

Monday 6 July – Rising Star Award with Apple Music Nominees announced

Monday 20 July – The Ivors Nominations announced

Wednesday 2 September – Winners announced, with further details in due course

The Ivors with Apple Music will return to the Grosvenor House in London in May 2021 with a date announced soon. Tickets for this year’s ceremony will remain valid for the 2021 event, with refunds also available. Ticket holders will be contacted directly by the Academy’s awards team.
