Sandwiched between both ACM sessions we were very lucky to book a guest artist session with Academy member and UK chart-topping songwriter Emily Phillips for students studying at the London campus of The British & Irish Modern Music in Fulham.
A fascinating insight into the co-writing process and collaborating, the nature of inspiration and where to possibly find ‘it…!’ and recording studio etiquette. Intelligent questions from BIMM students inspired debate on gender equality within the music industry and the shocking lack of female producers and studio technicians in the pool of available talent in this area. It was a very inspiring session for all in the room with students taking away real gems of information and different ways of thinking about the basics of the songwriting process and working in the music industry.
The Ivors Academy thanks Leo Nicholas (Head of Industry Liaison & Careers) and Lottie Hunt (Event Manager) at BIMM for their help with this event.
