In Winter 2019, we launched our Youth Council, designed to be an important source of insights and information for the Academy and an opportunity for young creators to develop their knowledge of their rights and the industry.
The Youth Council is an advisory group, made up of one student or creator aged under 25 from each of our Partner organisations, plus Under 25 Members of The Ivors Academy. The Youth Council meets once a term, at different Partner locations across the country, and meetings will be chaired by one of our Board Directors.
75% of our Youth Council is made up of representatives from our Partner organisations; 25% are Under 25 Members of The Ivors Academy who put themselves forward.
Whilst the Youth Council itself doesn’t have decision-making authority, it informs and influences the agendas of our Committees and Board, and therefore the causes we campaign on and the events we deliver. Moreover, all members of the Youth Council have been eligible to stand to be a Board Director of The Ivors Academy for a one-year term. Two members of the Council have now been co-opted the Academy’s Board.
We believe that creating this permanent place on our Board for a young creator sends an important message about how the Academy values the next generation of talent.
