The IVORS ACADEMY TRUST

Formerly known as the BASCA Trust, The Ivors Academy Trust is an independent charity established in 2000.

The Trust aims to advance the education of the general public in music and associated subjects, by providing educational and training services about composition and songwriting, and by providing scholarships, awards or grants to talented, deserving persons who are in need of financial assistance.

Our work programme focuses on three areas: Talk, Teach and Transform.

TALK

We hold talks, discussions and events to share information about songwriting and composing. The highlight of our events calendar is the David Ferguson lecture which honours the late composer and creators’ rights campaigner, and focuses on the importance of creative intellectual property and the value and significance of music creators in society.

TEACH

We fund and deliver education and training programmes about songwriting and composing, in order to develop the skills of music creators in the UK.

TRANSFORM

We offer scholarships, bursaries and grants to music creators in hardship, in order to help them maximise opportunities and develop their craft. The Writer Producer Fund, which we launched with the PRS Foundation, bestows a grant of up to £10,000 to its recipient.

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT

If you want to help champion music creators, please consider a donation to us. Your support will help deliver music education projects, provide assistance to songwriters and composers, and help everyone learn more about songwriting and composition.

The David Ferguson Legacy

David Ferguson (1953 – 2009) was one of Britain’s most successful television composers. His credits include Cracker, Rebus, Bravo Two Zero, and Auf Wiedersehen Pet. He served for six years as chairman of BASCA [now The Ivors Academy] and was awarded a Fellowship, our highest honour. David dedicated much of his life to campaigning about the rights of songwriters and composers. David left a portion of his estate to The Ivors Academy Trust [formerly the BASCA Trust] to support our education programmes.

Leave a Legacy

If music has enriched your life, or the life of someone you love, please consider leaving The Ivors Academy Trust in your will. Your bequest to us can be an effective way to reduce the total amount of tax liable on your estate. There are several types of legacy that you may wish to consider. Gifts can be a specified sum of money, a proportion of your residuary estate, or an item or asset. Your solicitor can advise you how to add The Ivors Academy Trust to your estate plans. If you have any questions or would like to discuss leaving a bequest to The Ivors Academy Trust, please do get in touch.
