Each year The Ivors Academy invites entries for the following seven Ivor Novello Award categories:
Rising Star Award with Apple Music
Best Contemporary Song
Best Original Film Score
Best Original Video Game Score
Best Song Musically and Lyrically
Best Television Soundtrack
Entries for The Ivors 2022 open on Monday 13 December 2021.
Entries close at 6pm on Friday 21 January 2022
Anyone can enter an eligible work or submission, including the songwriter or composer themselves.
The Rising Star Award with Apple Music recognises young British or Irish songwriting talent and to be eligible the songwriter must be a Standard Under 25 Member of The Ivors Academy.
Best Album, Best Contemporary Song, Best Original Film Score, Best Original Video Game Score, Best Song Musically and Lyrically and Best Television Soundtrack recognise creative excellence in individual works.
To be eligible, works must have a British or Irish writing contribution of at least 33.3%. A non-British or non-Irish national’s contribution can be taken into account, provided the composer was ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom from 1 January to 31 December 2021.
Works eligible for Best Album, Best Song Musically and Lyrically and Best Contemporary Song must have been commercially released in the UK for the first time between 1st January and 31st December 2021 and be available to stream on Apple Music.
Works eligible for Best Original Film Score must have received a theatrical release in the UK between 1 January and 31 December 2021. Titles whose confirmed theatrical release date (as determined by the Film Distributors Association) has fallen during the Covid 19 UK cinema lockdown will be eligible should their release have changed to an approved commercial VOD platform during the eligibility period.
Works eligible for Best Original Video Game Score must have been commercially released for the first time in the UK between 1 January and 31 December 2021.
Works eligible for Best Television Soundtrack must have been broadcast as part of a programme that received its first transmission in the UK between 1 January and 31 December 2021 on terrestrial, cable, satellite or digital channels including web-based broadcasters who commission original content (such as Netflix).
There are specific entry requirements for each category and a limit on the number of works any one composer or songwriter can enter. As such please read the Rules and Guidelines in full before preparing a submission.
An administration fee of £70.00 + VAT per entry is waived for members of The Ivors Academy. To find out about joining The Ivors Academy visit our Membership page. Membership bursaries are offered by The Ivors Academy Trust should there be a financial barrier to joining the Academy.
The Academy has published Award Access Guidelines to improve access to its awards and remove barriers to entry.
